”When your prospect can’t afford it . . . what do you do?” – Tom Big Al Schreiter lesson
Author: driessMay 19
”I can’t afford it” or ”The products are too expensive” excuses:
I won’t mention the name of the country – but it was poor. The average monthly income was only $300 a month. So my distributor was complaining:
“It is impossible to build a business here. Nobody can afford the products.”
Well, my distributor was just a bit irritated because we had been standing in line at the restaurant for over 45 minutes. He was hungry and cranky.
I replied,
“So the people here can’t afford our products, eh?
“Look at those young people. The ones without jobs. They are wearing some nice designer clothes. I bet they really got excited about how the designer companies advertised to them and they felt if they wore their designer clothes, people would think they are special.
“Oh look, these unemployed young people have cell phones. They are making expensive cell-phone-to-cell- phone calls to chat with their other poor friends. I bet they have the best cell phone plans to go with their iPhones.
“I wondered how much these people paid for valet parking? You know, gas is so expensive here, I hope they had enough money to tip the valet parking attendant. And you know what else? They are driving nice cars.
“Now, I know these people are unemployed because they are here, they are not at work today. I bet they have plenty of time on their hands. Hopefully they have a big screen television at home to enjoy their cable television channels.
“I think I saw some of these same people buying lottery tickets earlier. Do you also remember seeing some of them in line?
“But what really bothers me is that all of these unemployed people are drinking expensive beers, smoking expensive cigarettes, and sitting at this nice restaurant, while we are standing in line, waiting to get a seat.
“The economy must be really bad here. So many people out of work that the lines at this restaurant are untolerable.” My irritated distributor turned to me and said,
“Just shut up.”
But I couldn’t.
I just had to poke a little more.
I said,
“Do you know what is really happening?
“The cigarette company, the beer company, the designer clothes company, the restaurant, the car company, the cell phone company, and the cable television company all said better things than we did. They got their money first.
“We have to learn to say better things so that we can compete.
“We can’t just show them a catalog or brochure and expect them to buy. Our competition learned to say and do better things. We have to catch up. Standing in line and complaining isn’t going to fix our problem.” And that’s how the story goes.
In rich countries, in poor countries. The story is the same.
The salesmen that say and do better things get the prospects’ money.
So here is a question to ask yourself:
“How good are the things you say to prospects?”
Are the things you say good enough to get you into second place? That only means you got close, but not the sale.
We have to learn to compete with the professional advertisers and marketers of the world. We can’t be amateurs and hope for success.
But now for some good news.
We have an unfair advantage.
While our competition can only put up signs and run radio and television commercials, we actually get to have a “live” conversation, one-on-one with our prospect. What a remarkable advantage we have.
So let’s take advantage of this unfair advantage. Let’s not just hand them a brochure. Let’s say exciting, intriguing, mind-stimulating things and become first-place winners for our prospects’ spendable money.
Let’s study sound bites, word pictures, and other winning ways to interest and excite our prospects for the great things we have to offer.

What is the Difference between an Illegal Pyramid and a Legal Home Based Business
Author: driessMay 18
How to Spot An Illegal Pyramid Scam
by Bob and Anna Bassett
One of the simplest descriptions of a pyramid scam comes from Jerry ‘Rhino’ Clark.
“In a pyramid scheme, value flows just one way – up!”
Brilliant!
Picture a classic illegal pyramid with you at the top.
You recruit Lucy and Ricky and get them to give you $500. In return, you give them nothing of value – no service and nothing in a bag, bottle, or box.
Money has flowed ‘up’ to you, and nothing of value has flowed ‘down’ to them.
All you give Lucy and Ricky is ‘permission’ to find other people who will give them $500 in return for no service and nothing in a bag, bottle, or box.
So far, you have PLUS $1000, and Lucy and Ricky each have MINUS $500.
You are happy, but Lucy and Ricky think they might have been fished in.
Now Lucy and Ricky go out and find Ralph and Alice and Ed and Trixie who are willing to part with $500 in exchange for no service and nothing in a bag, bottle or box the same way they did.
Now you have PLUS $1000, and Lucy and Ricky each have PLUS $500.
Ralph and Alice and Ed and Trixie each have MINUS $500.
You and Lucy and Ricky are now happy, but Ralph and Alice and Ed and Trixie are not happy yet. We can go on, but you can see that there will always be more unhappy than happy people in this scheme. There will always be people ‘out of pocket’ when the police arrive.
$500 is always moving up the line, but nothing of value is coming back down. This is ILLEGAL.
Now consider a legitimate MLM business. Each person sends $500 to the company and in return, each receives a big box of vitamins, some bottles of juice, or some legitimate service worth $500.
Money has flowed UP, and goods or services of equal value have flowed DOWN back to the consumer. Just like going to a store, right?
Commissions are paid to the upline out of the $500. Just like commissions paid to salespeople and managers and owners in a store, right?
Now here is where it first gets confusing. Don’t worry – it gets worse later!
Many companies have a legitimate product or service, but charge too much for it. Often it is available elsewhere more cheaply or free!
We spoke to a woman recently who paid $1700 for a training package worth, in her estimation, about $200. She paid the money to her sponsor (red flag) overseas (red flag) by wire transfer (red flag). The sponsor kept $1000 (red flag) and sent $700 to the company (red flag).
Let’s forget for a moment that she had to give up her first two sales (Aussie two up red flag), and concentrate on the money flow.
$1700 has flowed UP, and $200 in dubious value has flowed DOWN. There is a missing $1500 in value!
How does a distributor make up that missing $1500? You’ve got it! By recruiting others!
In a scheme like this, you have to constantly be recruiting others, and selling them a package which you KNOW is not worth the price. Tough on the conscience, we think, and not something you would suggest to your church as a fundraiser.
Now if that’s not confusing enough (we promised you it would get worse!), consider the companies that have BOTH aspects in place – a legitimate goods and services side, and an illegal, immoral pyramid side!
Many companies (e.g. communications, energy, and travel) will sell you a $500 briefcase to get started and tell you it’s a small price to pay for a million dollar opportunity. Then they will pay your sponsor and upline good bonuses out of your pocket and call it residual income. Usually the pyramid side of the business covers up the poor commissions paid on the legitimate side. Just talk to any ex-Excel rep!
To decide whether any company (or any part of a company) is legitimate, just check to see if the money flowing up matches the value of the goods or services flowing down. If more flows up than down, it’s an illegal pyramid!
Thanks again to Jerry ‘Rhino’ Clark for a great test!

”Life is Worthwhile if You …” – a Jim Rohn article
Author: driessMay 17
1) First, life is worthwhile if you LEARN. What you don’t know WILL hurt you. You have to have learning to exist, let alone succeed.
Life is worthwhile if you learn from your own experiences, negative and positive. We learn to do it right by first sometimes doing it wrong. We call that a positive negative. We also learn from other people’s experiences, both positive and negative.
I’ve always said it is too bad failures don’t give seminars. We don’t want to pay them so they don’t tour around giving seminars. But the information would be very valuable – how someone who had it all, messed it up. Learning from other people’s experiences and mistakes.
We learn by what we see – pay attention. By what we hear – be a good listener. Now I do suggest being a selective listener, don’t just let anybody dump into your mental factory. We learn from what we read. Learn from every source. Learn from lectures, learn from songs, learn from sermons, learn from conversations with people who care. Keep learning.
2) Life is worthwhile if you TRY. You can’t just learn; you now have to try something to see if you can do it. Try to make a difference, try to make some progress, try to learn a new skill, try to learn a new sport. Life is worthwhile if you try. It doesn’t mean you can do everything but there are a lot of things you can do, if you just try. Try your best. Give it every effort. Why not go all out?
3) Life is worthwhile if you STAY. You have to stay from spring until harvest. If you have signed up for the day or for the game or for the project – see it through. Sometimes calamity comes and then it is worth wrapping it up. And that’s the end, but just don’t end in the middle. Maybe on the next project you pass, but on this one, if you signed up, see it through.
4) Life is worthwhile if you CARE. If you care at all you will get some results, if you care enough you can get incredible results. Care enough to make a difference. Care enough to turn somebody around. Care enough to start a new enterprise. Care enough to change it all. Care enough to be the highest producer. Care enough to set some records. Care enough to win.
Four powerful little words: learn, try, stay and care. What difference can you make in your life today by putting these four words to work?
To Your Success,
Jim Rohn

MLM Success Story using Mentoring for Free
Author: driessMay 17
“With the Ebook And Michael And 10+ Hours of Training a Week, How Could We Not Have Success?”
Paul & Anne Sorgi MLM Success Story
Persistence, it’s the one word that can describe my Success Story. Thinking back to when I started looking to create an additional income takes me back to my teenage years. I always dreamed of building an empire that would pay my children’s children. What was missing for almost 20 years was a plan. The statement: “Failing to plan is planning to fail” describes that time period in my life.
Overcoming Obstacles
In 2003 I decided to see what all the fuss was about making millions on the internet. I watched a few informercials and got a few websites out of the opportunity section of some magazines and I was off on my journey to discover the end of the internet!
Everything I looked at made my stomach crawl. Nothing seemed legit or legal. I finally came across a free program and I spent 6 months being frustrated. In those 6 months I had no contact, other than emails, with any of my upline. I finally headed back out on to the internet to find a new opportunity. I spent almost 2 years with my next adventure. I had an awesome direct upline that had joined 1 month before me and we clicked right away. There would still be many hurdles for us to jump over.
I was constantly scratching my head trying to figure out why the upline was so diligent in making it so difficult for us. They constantly held back information, they played the favorites game, they played people off of each other and they manipulated downlines. My team was growing and the money was trickling in, but I was really struggling.
Then through advertising, I came across a sweet lady who asked if I had ever read “Success in 10 Steps“? I had seen the ads for it all over the internet but I kept passing it over. I finally decided to download the book based on this sweet lady’s recommendation.
A month passed and I finally decided to read the ebook. After being beaten up and kicked around, I was skeptical. But I could not put the book down. I immediately felt the relief. My LACK of Success was NOT my Fault. WOW!
I called the lady who had recommended the ebook. I jumped on the weekly training calls and when I heard how easy it was to talk to people about the ebook, I knew I had found the system and training that could grow my business.
With the ebook and Michael and 10+ hours of training a week, how could we not have Success? It gave us a proven duplicatable system to build our business. We have sponsored a few who have sponsored a few, and so on, and so on. I have the support of Michael Dlouhy and the dynamic team at Mentoring For Free who share information and offer guidance. Anne and I thank them from the bottom of our hearts!
Anne and I are solid users of the MFF system and have been using it for 3 years. It is as simple as 1,2,3. Without MFF and its duplication we never would have reached Diamond in our Company or been able to help others reach Diamond as well.
Personal Motivation for Today
Author: driessMay 14
Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow
There are two days in every week that we should not worry about, two days that should be kept free from fear and apprehension.
One is yesterday, with its mistakes and cares, its faults and blunders, its aches and pains. Yesterday has passed, forever beyond our control.
All the money in the world cannot bring back yesterday. We cannot undo a single act we performed. Nor can we erase a single word we’ve said – yesterday is gone!
The other day we shouldn’t worry about is tomorrow, with its impossible adversaries, its burden, its hopeful promise and poor performance. Tomorrow is beyond our control.
Tomorrow’s sun will rise either in splendor or behind a mask of clouds – but it will rise. And until it does, we have no stake in tomorrow, for it is yet unborn.
This leaves only one day – today. Any person can fight the battles of just one day. It is only when we add the burdens of yesterday and tomorrow that we break down.
It is not the experience of today that drives people mad – it is the remorse of bitterness for something which happened yesterday, and the dread of what tomorrow may bring.
Let us, therefore, live one day at a time!

Three levels of commitment in your Network Marketing team
Author: driessMay 12
Tom ‘Big Al’ Schreiter says that we will have people on our Network Marketing team at three levels of commitment.
- “I’ll try.” This is the lowest form of commitment. When it doesn’t work, people will leave to try something else – those are the Opp-hoppers.
- “I’ll do my best.” These people will quit when their best is not good enough. They would rather quit than improve.
- “I’ll do whatever it takes.” These are the people you are looking for – those who will work on themselves and keep at it until they are good enough to get it done.

The Major Key to Your Better Future is You by Jim Rohn
Author: driessMay 10
Of all the things that can have an effect on your future, I believe personal growth is the greatest. We can talk about sales growth, profit growth, asset growth, but all of this probably will not happen without personal growth.
It’s really the open door to it all. In fact I’d like to have you memorize a most important phrase. Here it is, “The major key to your better future is YOU.”
Let me repeat that. “The major key to your better future is YOU.” Put that someplace you can see it everyday, in the bathroom, in the kitchen, at the office, anywhere where you can see it everyday. The major key to your better future is YOU. Try to remember that every day you live and think about it. The major key is YOU.
Now, there are many things that will help your better future. If you belong to a strong, dynamic and progressive company, that would help. If the company has good products, good services that you are proud of, that would certainly help. If there were good sales aids, that would help, good training would certainly help.
If there is strong leadership that will certainly help. All of these things will help, and of course, if it doesn’t storm, that will help. If your car doesn’t break down, that will help. If the kids don’t get sick, that will help. If the neighbors stay half way civil, that will help. If your relatives don’t bug you, that will help.
If it isn’t too cold, if it isn’t too hot, all those things will help your better future. And if prices don’t go much higher and if taxes don’t get much heavier, that will help. And if the economy stays stable, those things will all help. We could go on and on with the list; but remember this, the list of things that I’ve just covered and many more – all put together – play a minor role in your better future.
The major key to your better future is you. Lock your mind onto that. This is a super important point to remember. The major key is you. Mr. Shoaff always answered when asked, “How do you develop an above average income?” by saying “Simple, become an above average person. Work on you.” Mr. Shoaff would say, “Develop an above average handshake.”
He would say, “A lot of people want to be successful, and they don’t even work on their handshake. As easy as that would be to start, they let it slide. They don’t understand.” Mr. Shoaff would say, “Develop an above average smile.
Develop an above average excitement. Develop an above average dedication. Develop an above average interest in other people.” He would say, “To have more, become more.” Remember; work harder on yourself than you do on your job. For a long time in my life, I didn’t have this figured out.
Strangely enough, with two different people in the same company one may earn an extra $100 a month, and the other may earn a $1,000. What could possibly be the difference? If the products were the same, if the training was the same, if they both had the same literature, the same tools.
If they both had the same teacher, the same compensation plan, if they both attended the same meetings, why would one person earn the $100 per month and the other person earn the $1000? Remember here is the difference…the difference is personal, inside, not outside, inside.
You see the real difference is inside you. In fact, the difference IS you. Someone once said, “The magic is not in the products. The magic is not in the literature. The magic is not in the film. There isn’t a magic meeting, but the magic that makes things better is inside you, and personal growth makes this magic work for you.
The magic is in believing. The magic is in daring. The magic is in trying. The real magic is in persevering. The magic is in accepting. It’s in working. The magic is in thinking. There is magic in a handshake. There is magic in a smile. There is magic in excitement and determination.
There is real magic in compassion and caring and sharing. There is unusual magic in strong feeling and you see, all that comes from inside, not outside. So, the difference is inside you. The real difference is you. You are the major key to your better future.
To Your Success,
Jim Rohn
